This is a great resource for stats and numbers related to ecommerce.
Forrester Research
This site is well respected throughout the internet for their thorough ecommerce and online business related research and resources. Their articles also discuss future ecommerce trends and projections.
Commerce.Net/Nielson Stats
This site has all of the numbers you need to see how many people are on the internet and how many are potential ecommerce consumers. As of spring, 1999 there were over 68 million people in the US alone on the internet.
Network Wizard
This site reports there are over 40 million host names on internet. (up almost 7 million from the last survey.)
MIT Internet Statistics
This site discusses the growth of the web and internet from a ecommerce perspective
Network Wizards
This site breaks down the URL registrations by types. For example, according to this site there are over 1/4 or 12 million of all registered URLs with the suffix .com. 8 million are .net, 740 thousand are .org, another 1.5 million are .us, 5 million are .edu, and 651 thousand are .edu.
