MANAGEMENT 101: THE ROAD TO ART

To be a good artist, you will find in practice - no one will help you out. The ultimate challenge is business - not art, obviously. [At Age 41; 70; 67 - 90 & 110.] Or, you probably will fail in your pursuits - regardless of your perfections.

Therefore, the unfortunate side of being a career artist is you must be willing to endure long hours and you must be flexible to business.

MANAGEMENT IS FIRST

WHY? Because, you tend to do your own books. You tend to run your own company, do your own marketing, and schedule your own appointments anyways.

THE ARTIST'S WAY DOES WORK.

Therefore, you tend to find, it is just easier to take classes and learn business yourself as you get older. It seems frustrating, but in the end - it saves you money. And a good artist needs all the money he or she can get to stay in business.

This process of initial maturity tends to take about fifteen years as a norm. This is the typical artist's way; regardless of place, time, or proximity. This is why most do call this "Journey" the "Artist's Way".

WHY SHOULD YOU DO THAT?

Why should you take art seriously? The point of this article is you should not unless you are serious. However, if you truly wish a lifelong and meanful career in the arts, many start with "The Artist's Way" generically as a norm because it works for the average artist to get to whole.

So it is not per se something you should do, it is more something that you will do either way. Thus, in terms of business, best to learn it then to resist the obvious is why you are best to follow standard business conventions first until you get standing in the book called the "Artist's Way" (i.e. "Life" as an Artist in "transition"). For some odd reasons, many successful artists do seem to do that, and ultimately managing your own affairs seems to work as part of the process to get to whole in "The Artist's Way".

BUT, IF I AM AN ARTIST, HOW DO I MANAGE THIS MONEY? i.e. "BUSINESS"?

Ultimately, they always hire attorneys, go to law school, give up their life, and become a full-time Artist for a living. i.e. why it is commonly called in world history, regardless of location - "The Artist's Way".

CONCLUSION

So this gest of this, welcome to Art Management piece, is its nice to look at - but "trust me"; do not marry it - unless you ARE Serious. Why? Because the alternatives, are too painful. An average artist ends up dead. A good one is in love with their useless work. A better one, is professional. i.e. "Lives" in the end, because it is "just business". i.e. "The Artist's Way". ___________________________________________________
