I. Shopping for a Professional Banner Designer

Shopping for a professional banner designer is not easy. However, there are plenty of quality designers on the internet. The following chart links to some of these and outlines the services they offer. Their prices are listed as of 4/1/99 and thus may have changed since then.

Online banner makers let you make banners online for free using pre-determined templates available at their web site. These can be fun and look good. They are also free, which is nice too. We have a page of samples on the link above for your to visit for these types of services. They will not give you specialized design work, but they will give you a nice starter banner if you have no money to invest or have something simple in mind. Some of the templates and graphics are quite sharp. In fact, you may find an interest in interchanging these with professional design services to cover your site graphics needs.

Banner maker services tend to make one basic banner for you for a fairly reasonable price. When I say "basic", I don't mean boring. They can be very nice actually. It is just that these sites tend to steer clear of the detailed design work and tend to focus on single contracts as opposed to full advertising design package arrangements. (But you may find some that do that too.) The prices as you can see below tend to range from $0 - $100 for static banners and $50 to $300 for animations. $50.00 is the average for static and $200.00 the average for specialized animations and other banner design work. The work is very good and usually very fast. You probably won't be disappointed.

Banner design services tend to specialize and tend to give you the "whole enchilada". They give you specialized design services, sometimes from graphics experts. They also usually work more on full campaign advertising design planning, like a typical ad agency. A relationship with them can take weeks to months to finalize, depending upon the extent of your project or need.
