In Life Magazine's 1998 review, there is a picture of a baby boy in Sudan, Africa, with skin wrinkled to his bones, lying supported on the shoulders of his brother. Every time I hear my own child cry, I think about how awful it must be for that little boy and his family, and the unnecessary pain they must suffer. I say unnecessary because we have so much food in our country. It is sad to think of someone starving when we have so much here that we could give.

What can you do? A lot - with very little.

Now you probably don't have that kind of money but that's okay. It only takes $20. $20 from you is the same as $20,000 from a person who makes a million. Just think of what that $20.00 can buy for someone who has not had a decent meal in months. A loaf of bread costs $.50, but it could save someone's life. A box of baby cereal costs $1.40. Consider this: those pictures are of real people - not just pictures in a magazine or on the tv screen. Those are real children in those pictures like yours and mine. Do you remember what it was like to be a kid? Remember your first time at good ole' Mccy D's (McDonalds) or playing in the yard? Remember swimming or camping or school games. All these children are asking for is a chance to live.

Here are some samples of what some companies already do:

Platinum a software manufacturer, donates to charities on both an international and national level. They support endangered species programs and sponsor digital workstations for underpriviledged children. They offer great software and consulting assistance in computer technology and the internet. They have offices all over the world. If you need computer assistance, check them out. They are also big on virtual reality type concepts.
Visio , gives a percentage of their profit to a charity bank where it is divided up to go to different community and international charities. This company offers software for company's computerized imaging needs - no experience required.
ECards also donates a percentage of their advertising dollars to endangered species programs. So if you need to send a card, make it ecards.
Target Stores and its parent company, "Dayton Hudson" do a number of things to help local charities and childrens organizations/schools. (and it is a great place to shop.) Use one of their credit cards and they will donate a percentage of your spendings to a school of your choice.
Lycos has a link at the bottom of their site for finding missing children.
Handilinks Search Engine promotes the learning of sign language with front page tutorials.
Barnes and Noble will set up special affiliate programs for charities and can help charities sell their books through a Barnes and Nobles storefront.

Public Personalities Give To Charity:

Yeah professional athletes make a lot of money. But would you be complaining if you had the big paycheck? Here is what some of those guys and gals are doing with their money and free time. CBS SPORTSLINE GIVING TO CHARITY .

A lot of other public personalities are also very dedicated to helping charitable causes. Take musicians for example. Contrary to the popular stereotype about "rock 'n' rollers" and hotel room bashing, most musicians are very kind, caring people, who dedicate their work and life to giving to others. They share their hearts and minds to you with every song they provide. So it follows that most of them are also very dedicated to charities and helping those in need. And they do.

You hear it in the music they do to benefit charitable causes. You see it in the kind things they do like giving shows where the proceeds go to help find cures for diseases, give to those who are suffering, and fight causes. The same is true for most public figures, including actors, politicians, news personalities and a number of other public personalities. Many of them have found creative ways to use their trades, time, and income to help those less fortunate.

But they are not the only heroes. People all across the country have open their hearts to help others in need. People in factories, mills, and on the streets have emptied their pockets to support charities and non-profit giving opportunities. They are the heroes too! Through their kindness and yours, children like the small baby in Sudan will learn to eat again. Who knows maybe someday, he will get a chance to see the cute dinosaur at the top of this screen. Now that is something to be thankful for.
